WELLINGTON HOSPITAL

MONTHLY MEETING OF THE BOARD. Tlio monthly meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitbalo Aid Board Was liold in tho new offices connected With the General Hospital yesterday Hitornoou. There wore present:— Rev. "■A. Evans (chairman), Mrs. D. M'Laren, Dr. Platts-Mills, Miss M. Richmond, Messrs. F. Castle, D. Campbell, W. Galloway, J. W. M'Ewan, D. M'Laren, F. T. Moore, G. Nash, G. J. iotherick. D. Robertson, Dr. M'Kenzieund tho Rev. J. K. Elliott. Tho Hospital Committee recommendations, as follows, wero adopted:— That copies of the return of bread baked at the Hospital from April i, 1913, to January 1, 1915, be laid on the table for the information of members of the board.

That the official opening of the dental branch of the out-patients' department be left in the hands of Messrs. Campbell, Smith, M'Laren, and tho chairman.

' That the nurses of the Wellington Hospital staff be allowed free treatment at the dental branch (dentures to be charged minimum fee). That Dr. Ewan bo appointed junior house surgeon on the resident medical staff of the Wellington Hospital (vies Dr. P. Matheson resigned). That the charge for military camp patients under treatment in the measles ward, Wellington Hospital, be reduced from £2 2s. to £1 ss. per week (the Government provides for nursing in this ward).

That leave of absence be granted Sisters E. Pengelly, P. Price, M. M'Beth, aud ' P. Speedy, and' that positions on the nursing staff be kept open for them. (Sisters Pengelly, Price, and M'Bethhave been selected by the Defence authorities for service at the front.) That Nurses E. Fitzgerald and L. Gray have passed the Hospital final examination. That authority has been given for tepairs and repainting roofs at Main Hospital.

That a request be made to the Press _fcp notify the public that magazines, illustrated papers, and books for the inmates of the Hospital and its institutions will be thankfully received. That the offices of / the head office staff (secretary, accountant, public health inspectors and collectors, etc.) have been transferred froin No. 4 Marion Street to the Bacteriological and Outpatients' Block 3 General Hospital. ■ That no tender be "accepted for supply of fabrics, and further that the board carry out the policy already adopted in regard to its system of providing provision for making the necessary purchase of fabrics in the best and cheapest markets. , That the house steward bo authorised to procure from three to six months' supply of the major lines required,: in accordance with the samples, quotations to be obtained before making purchases. That Mr. J. W., Arnold has been appointed driver for the motor ambulance van, and that ho. be attached to the engineer's staff. That fortnightly returns for periods ended February 1 and 15 be adopted.

OTAKI HOSPITAL AND SANATORIUM. The following are the statistics, for the month of January, 1015:—Otaki Hospital: 22 admitted,' 19 discharged, 1 death under treatment, 6 males and 4 females. Otaki Sanatorium: 6 admitted, 4«discharged (all well and able to work and 1 transferred to Seddon. Under treatment, 12 males and 15 females. "That annual leave of absence be authorised to Dr. Huthwaite, tho matron, and Sister Pownall. "That accounts for tho month, amounting to £258 lis. 4d,,. be passed for payment. On the recommendation of the Charitable Aid Committee accounts amounting to £404 12s. Bd. were passed., FINANCE. On the recommendation of . the Finanoe, Property, and Policy Committee, the following• report was adopted: , That the Controller and AuditorGeneral has returned the- balance-sheet of the board for the year ended March 31, 1914,- with no exceptions.

"That the board endorse any action taken for amending the defect in the law so far as the recovery of fees for maintenance on account of deceased persons is concerned.

"That the apcounts for the month be passed for payment:—Wellington Hospital, £2334 12s. 7d.; Charitable Aid and Ohiro Home, £404 12s. 7d.; Otaki Hospital and Sanatorium, £258 lis. 4d.; head office, public health, etc., £287 19s. lOd. Total, £328J 161 4d."
