INDIAN HAWKER ON TRIAL. . Melbourne, February 17. Butchan Singh has been acquitted of the murder of the Pugsley family on the grounds of insanity. [Mrs. Pugsley, a, farmer's wife, and .her two children were shot dead, and a third child seriously wounded, on December 16. Her husband left home early, and when he returned the tragedy had been committed. The police arrested an Indian hawker who had served in the Indian Army recentij. He was under the delusion that people were trying to poison him.] NEW ZEALANDER LOST IN A . WRECK. London, February 16. • Macdonald, a New Zealander, was drowned in the wreck of the barque Andromeda during a gale at Falmouth. —"Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services GREATER J. D. WILLIAMS COYDIVIDEND OF Is. PER SHARE. (Rec. February 17, 1130 p.m.) Sydney, February 17. The fourth annual report of .the Greater J. D. Williams Company states that, including the balance brought forward, the balance-sheet shows a credit of £16,876. The board recommends a dividend of Is; per share. Fivo thousand pounds has been transferred to the reserve, and £2851 carried forward. During the year a claim for £20,000, for alleged breach of contract, had been settled for £9356, including costs. Tho company decidcd to repay debentures totalling £7800, maturing on June 30, before that date if desired.
ALLEGED THIEF SHOT DEAD. (Rec. February 17, 9.'40 p.m.) Melbourne, February 17. As the result of recent robberies at the Carlton Drill-hall, Sergeant-Major Kerry was watching the building. He challenged a man named Moran, -who continued running. The Sergeant fired, and shot Moran dead. It is alleged that a quantity of property which bad been stolen from the hall was found on the body. ' 'A' WHEAT SEIZURE. ; (Rec. February 17, 9.40 p.m.) Sydney, February 17. After an inquiry by the Commodities Commission, the Government seized 443 bags of flour which bad been sold by a Sydney merchant for shipment to Queensland and Victoria. . ' UNWELCOME GUESTS EXPELLED. (Reo. February 17, 9.40 p.m.) Melbourne, February 17. Mr. H. Mahon (Honorary Minister in the Federal Cabinet) has ordered the deportation of two Chinese recently from Canton. They were connected with the .Chinese "K-epublican News," published In Sydney, in which they conducted a fierce Chinese revolutionary campaign.
