PETONE BOROUGH
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. At tihe ordinary meeting of the Petono Borough Council, held on Monday, there were present: The Mayor (Mr. J W. M'Ewan), and Councillors Trueman, Jonos, Anderson, Brooklebank,, Cox, Townsend, and List. The secretary of tho Petone District High School Committee wrote requesting the council to favourably consider the application of the Wellington Education Board for an area of land at the Hutt Park as a site for the proposed High School or Secondary College for the Hutt Valley. and Eastbourne. After considerable discussion Councillor Anderson moved: "That in the event of the Education Board deciding to erect a Hjgh School upon the Hutt Park, the council's representatives on the Hutt Park Committee be instructed to use their best endeavours to obtain 15 acres of land for that purpose." The motion was lost, only the mover and seconder voting for it. It was decided to accede to the request of the Petone District High. School Committee for a piece of ground for gardening purposes. Regarding the blocking of To Puni Street by railway wagons, the District Engineer, N.zTr., advised that he had requested the Gear Company to move their wagong clear of the roadway when stock was being discharged, and the Gear Company wrote stating that owing to tho enormous quantities of stock, etc., handled at this time of the year, it was impossible to obviate some little inoonvonience, and pointed out, that the siding was not the company's, but a public one. It was agreed to take the necessary steps to discover tie owners of the siding. In respect to a complaint regarding offal .washing up on the foreshore, the Gear Company stated that further intercepting traps had been installed at the works to cope with the matter. Building permits for the semi-detach-ed house and six miscellaneous, of a total valuo of £1790, had been issued, the amount in fees being £3 los., tho total value in fees received for tho year being £43 10s.
