ULIMAROA IN BAD WEATHER. Bad weather delayed ffie Ulimaroa, on her journey from Sydney to Wellington this trip. Consequently the vessel did not arrive in port till 4.45 p.m. yesterday. She cleared-Sydney at nooh on • Friday last, and immediately ran into a hard south-east galo and sea. These conditions lasted, for two days, -when the wind veered round to the south and a nasty beam sea, was much in evidence. On entering Cook Strait the weather improved, and remained fine till Arrival.' The • TJliin&roa/, berthed at t thft Queen's Wharf, No. 1 South 1 , on arrival, and will sail for Lyttelton' at 5 p.m. today. She will leave Wellington for Sydney and Hobart at 5 p.m. on jfriday. next.

WIMMER-A FEOil HOBAET. Messrs. Huddart, Parker and Co.'a local office have been advised, that the steamer Wimmcra, bound from Melbourne'to Wellington, continued her journey from Hobart at 5 p.m. yesterday. Sh© has 66 passengers and 30 tons of ou board for thie port, and is due hero on Friday evening, or Saturday morning. The wimmera •mil leave Wellington for southern porta, Hobart, 'and Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

IMPROVING MOTtTEKA, HARBOUR. The inndcnuatencss of the Motueka wharf accommodation, and the va6t improvements necessary to the harbour are only realised, by those who have visited the port, ana as it is the sole outlet for the great resources of that fertile district, great lmprovemcnts are needed. Under able charge o£ Mr. P. Mace, resident engineer, the now harbour -works are rapidly being carried forward.' It hoe been decided to cut a-channel straight out to, sea, and a. depth of not less than 7ft. at low tide is assured. This in itself will be ft boon to shipowners, as then vessels will be awe to leave the harbour regardless of ttie state of the tide. - Dredging is also being carried on, and the stones and rocke being scooped u<p by the dredge are need on the construction of a training wall. The engineer if of opinion that the harbour will be ready for opening by the middle of June. Better wharf accommodation m also being arranged, and two up-to-date sheds, with ell modern improvements, and capable of storing some 30,000 or <0.000 caeca of frait, are planned by the engineer. A lar»o cool storage 6hed, which is badly needed, is also likely to be erected.

Oompany'e Kaipara when she was captured and sunk by the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, now holds a similar position on the same company's RuaJiine, which is due at Wellington, from London early next week. Mr. Sneller is well known in Wellington, having traded hero for the last twenty-five.years, and previous to that wn« in the Navy, under Admiral Fisher. Mr. L. Davenport has been engaged.as' wireless operator on the Monowai. Mr. A. Garnish, who was third officer of the Monowai, has loft that vessel; Mr. D. Gardner has joined her as second.

The Shaw-Savill liner Waimana left the Bluff for Wellington at 3 a.m.,.yesterday. She is-due heTe either late to-night or early to-morrow moraine, and will ho dispatched for Loßdon on Saturday next.

A cablegram has been : received stating that the Waiwera, which cleared Wellington for London on January 21, continued her journey from Monto Video on Saturday, February 13. .

Advice has been received from Greymouth stating that the Eakauoa cleared tlv.it port for Wellington via Lyttelton at 12.45 p.m. yesterday. Provision is mndo whereby the vessel can be submerged by letting water into tho ballast tanks, in order that ten steel flatbottomed barges may be floated into the inside of the vessel by means of two "gatce." These barges, which are loaded with timber. rest on>a lower deck inaide the vessel, being similar in stylo to a floating dock. The water is then pumped out of the vessel's tanks, the "gates" are hermetically closed, and tho vessel is ready (o proceed on her voyage. - On arrival .-it the part of diecharge the vessel is again submerged, and the barges floated out for unloading. Two sets of barges may be used, 50 that when one set is floated out, the other, which ha# been previously loaded, is floated In for the return journey.
