Tho' ram j fell to Mr. D. M'Donala 'Sand Mr. W. Perry got the reserve chamfcpion in rams. The prizes in the Linfecoln ewe classes were more evenly dit«vided. Mr. Henry Gaisford won tho . !<champion' and another of his' ewes was Reserve champion. He secured one other Hirst and Mr. <T. W. Compton scorod two ■ ["Other Sheep Classes. i The R-omney division was ono of the Kfinest in tho show. VTho entries were f-very heavy and the quality remarkably yine. Tho jndgo found his task • a , -heavy one and some of the results had . been announced when tho time for Cleaving tho show arrived. Mr. G. E. (,'Ailcn nas been awarded the elder ewe I championship and' Mi. W. Perry the i,clta.mpionship for younger ewes. Other %-eeders who have scored fiTst prizes few: Messrs. W. tic classes failed to secure any entries as all. Both the championships and all the firsts went to Mr. J. A. Welsh, who was practically'unopposed. Three well-known oxhibitors contestMi tile Shropshire competition. Mr. A. D. Vavasour, of Marlborough, was the chief; patron oF these pens, and most of the prizes went his way. His opponMits were Mr. William Raynor and E. Donald's estate. Both the championships were' awarded to Mr. Vavasour's sheep and both reserve championships and altogether the Ugbrooke stud seoured seven firsts and four seconds.
Fat and Freezing Sheep. The fat sheep were decidedly good and tho exhibition was considered to be quite up to the standard of New Zealand shows. Firsts went to Messrs. Tyler (2), H. H. Beetham (3), W. M'Kenzie, W. Howard Booth, Mrs. H. Holmes, R. Buick, P. Cooper (six).
With tho exception of a prize which went to Messrs; Shaw and Son, and one which went to: Mr. J. Hotlmes, all tho firsts in the long wool cross classes for farmers were won by Messrs. M'Kenzie Bros. Messrs. Shaw and Son won the Tikitapu trophy offered by Mr. J. J. Kennedy for the best pen of five twotooth of four-tooth long wool or long wool cross ewes. At last year's show ■this trophy was won by Messrs. M'Kenzie Bros. Mr. C. Bannister won the prize for the best collection of New Zealand wool.
Among the Cattle. There was an excellent display; of purebred Shorthorn cattle, a thing, of course,' which was expected. Most of the breeders were Wairarapa men and Mr. W. T. Williams, of Hawke's Bay, was ■ The bull championship was awarded to Mr. W. Howard Booth's Carrington Duke 56, and the Carterton breeder's success was very well deserved.. Sir Walter Buchanan showed the reserve 'champion. The only yearling bull was . entered by Mr. W. Howard Booth, and it was awarded a' first prize; Mr. Booth won the cow championship, also, and Mr. W. T.'Williams was second. The best three-yea?-old. heifer waß Mr. ; Booth's, and. the best two-year-old Mr. .. Williams's. Tw.o . other heifer classes fell to:the Hawke's Bay breeder and ono. to Mr. J. M'Masfer.
The grade Shorthorns were good, but .Here were only. two competitors— Messrs. J. Stranp; and Moore Bros. Four firsts went to Mr. Strang, and one to Moore.Bros.
' A/fair number of entries was made tn the "purebred Hereford division arid the competition was rather keen. Half a dozen of tho first awards went in favour of'the Feilding breeder Mr. E. Short and the other five firsts were won. by. Mr. D. M'Kenzie. Both the cow and the bullock championship were annexed by Mr. Short. For'years there has been only small entries of. Polled , Angus cattle at the majority of New Zealand shows and Masterton is no exception. The chief prizes."iwere won by 1 Messrs. Moore 8f05.,,?F. B. Lowes, F. Moore, and J. 0. Sutherland.
No were, shown, and only a fairj number of Jerseys. In the Jer-; Key division some very nice cattle were shown, iamd the judge, considered that they showed'the .best characteristics of the breed. Mr. ; S. It. Lancaster, of Palmerston, North, was;, the most sticcessfut"eshibitor. He won all the' IM®ingvpi'izes, including the cow champion-fihip.'-'Qxccpt that for yearling heifer, in which he was beaten by Mr. T. Dixon. There were rather few entries of Holsteins, and the judge considered that the lack of numbers detracted a good deal from the value, of the exhibition of these cattle. Mr. W.. I. Lovelock, of I.ongburn, added to, his very long list of successes. He captured' both the championships and .three other firsts. Firsts'also went to W; Barton (two) and W. ftemnant (two). There was "'ail' interesting selection of fat cattle, and the judge, Mr. Martin Baird, of Hastings, saia that, taken as a whole, they were an exceptionally fine lot. ; Sir Walter Buchanan won the bull championship with a fine specimen filtered in the aged class, in which the competition was particularly keen. Sir Walter Buchanan showed the champion .cow also. , - \
Firsts in fat bullocks were;gained By; Messrs; J. C. M'Killop and W. Howara Booth. J. W. Buchanan showed the best shop bullock. • In the classes for pens of two bullocks three: first prizes went to Mr. 'J. >W:i Buchanan, one to Sir Walter Buchanan, and one to Mr. W. H. Beetham.
Dairy Produce Competitions. There were four dairy produce competitions; and the prizes were awarded a3 follow:—
Buttor for- export—Ballanco Factory, V, Konini Factory, 2. Butter for local consumption—BalJance Factory, 1; Konini Factory, 2; Mrs. J. B. M'Kenzie, 3. Farmers' fresh butter—H. T. Holder, 1; Mrs. J. B. M'Kenzie, 2. Chcese—Parkvale Factory, 1; Oarrington Co., 2. • . The show of pigs was very small, and only ten entries were made. Wilton Bros, won' the four first prizes, allotted.
Some of the Horse Results. Some of the horses wore judged today,- and the remainder will pass through the hands of the judges tomorrow. Firsts in thoroughbreds- were won by Messrs. G. Foreman, C. F. Vallancc, J. 0. M'Killop, and C. Oliver. In 1 ponies; Messrs.' J. 0. M'Killop and C. .K. M'Laren won .firsts, and in hacks Messrs. C. F. Vallance and J. Ruska won unopposed. , The pony prizes were awarded to Phoebe . Martin, Myrtle Watson, Bessie M'Kenzie, F. P. Evan6, and Miss Mace. The best girl rider was Myrtle Watkins, with Jeßsie Perry secondhand V. Gore third. N. Percy was the best boy rider, M. Perry was second, and D. Tatbam third. The only draught prizes awarded fell to Messrs. MorSop and Hill, E. Short (3),, Q. Donald (2)', P. C. Ward, and C. Honsen.
