A "SWAGGER'S" TERRIBLE ■ PLIGHT. Telegraphed advico was reoeived at the local police head'quartors from Gladstone yesterday that a. '"swagger" named William M'Lauglilin had beon discovered on Sunday in a dying condition in a. hut there. The man was removed to the Greytown Hospital. When ho was discovered, M'Laughliu was in a torrible plight, and was naked, except for a few dirty blankets. Ho had evidently been suffering for days unknown to anyone. BATHING FATALITY. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Napier, February 16. At an inquest regarding the death of Tarangi Mohi, drowned at The Port while bathing, the Coroner returned a verdict of accidentally drowned. After giving his verdict, the Coroner warmly commended the lad Ronald Stovens, who, although only 13 years old, bravely risked his life to save a grown man, and said the incident should be brought to the notice of the Humane Society. ACCIDENTAL DEATH. Greymouth, February 16. At an inquest concerning the death of Joseph Noble, the evidonce of railway hands was to the effect that deceased'was helping to dislodge a big stone, about five tons in weight, from a truck, when : the latter, capsized, pinning deceased between .the stone and the truck. The evidence went to show that hot in the experience of witnesses were' trucks clamped to the rails, but it was admitted that such precautions would have prevented the accident. No specific reason was given why the particular truck should capsize,' seeing that numbers loaded with heavy stone had been safely handled without clamping the wheels to the rails. A verdict of accidental death. was returned. . * ACCIDENT IN A. TUNNEL. , Auokland, February 16. William Capel and William Dennis, two miners, were ' employed at one end of the Parnell tunnel when a shot was fired at the other end, a few feet of papa rock separating two parties ■ or workmen. Both men were hurled against' the timber supports and covered by papa rock. They were removed to the hospital severely bruised, but no bones were broken. Joseph Symonds, a;Tnamed man, also employed in the tunnel works, was knocked down by a passing train and had his, hip fractured.

'A lad named Bullot, about 15 years of age, died last n'igh.i as the result of a cycling accident yesterday nficnioon, He was riding. down the main, street, and collided with a pedestrian, being thrown violently, He sustained concussion of the brain. ACCIDENT ENDS FATALLY. Timaru, February 16. Fred Wurm, a. machinist at Blyth's woodward factory,l Temuka, was crosscutting some wood with a oirculair saw on Saturday when, a piece bumped on the. saw and was flung off, striking Wurm in the < abdomen and rupturing a small intestine. An operation was performed on Sunday,, but. Wurm died this morning. Deceased was a popular I and useful citizen.
