SKETCHES FROM THE TRENCHES
BY "EYE-WITNESS" A BOMB FOR DINNER (Rec. February 16, 5.20 p.m.) London, February 15. The British Press Bureau publishes the following campaign sketches by "Eye-witness":— , "The activity of the enemy's snipers has diminished, owing to the marksmanship of our sharp-shooters. A Britisher recently accounted for six snipers single-handed. "At one. or two points the Germans displayed unwonted friendliness, throwing cigarettes into our trenches. Our men smoked them while continuing to shoot at their enemy's loopholes. "A party of officers had a sensational escape. They were sitting down at dinuer in a dug-out, when a bomb landed in their midst. When the smoke and dust had cleared, the dinner had completely disappeared. None of them were hurt"
The writer adds; "The endeavour to get the bettor of the enemy in all sorts of little ways makes up the daily life of Efie soldier." —"Times" and Sydney "Sun" services.
