FATAL FALL FROM A TRAIN

WELLINGTON RESIDENT KILLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Levin, February 15. A. man named D. Scott, of Wellington Terrace, ' Wellington, fell off the express .train to-day bofcween W <t ud Otaki. Both his legs were severed and his skull was fractured. He was taken to the Otaki Hospital and died fifteen minutes after admission. POLICE REPORT OF THE FATALITY. A telegram was leceived at local police headquarters yesterday giving brief particula'.-s of the fatality. The message was to the effect that Mr. Scott and his daughter were coming on to Wellington by the Auckland express. Shortly after this train had passed Waikanae a railway official on a slow train travelling past Waikacae in an opposite direction saw Mr. Scott lying terribly injured across the railway line. Assistance was immediately procured, and the unfortunate man conveyed with all dispatch to the Otaki Hospital. There he lingered for a little while," but died shortly after admittance to the institution. Deceased's daughter did not see the accident, but some time after it occurred missed her father. The District Coroner at Otaki has telegraphed to the local police that there is no objection to the inquest on the late Mr. Scott'being beld in Wellington. The date of the coronial inquiry has uot yet been fixed. The deceased gentleman was an old | resident of the City, was about 68 years of age, and resided with his family at 243 Wellington Terrace. His only son has been informed of the sad tidings, and is to arrive by train from tne north this morning. The late Mr. Scott was a Civil Servant, and was formerly in the Marine Department, retiring from service in 1910. He has been in indifferent health for some time. On learning of the fatality yesterday, deceased's wife_ immediately left by motor foi Otaki.
