SAMOAN VILLAGES DESTROYED. Vancouver, February 12.
A report from San Francisco states that- whole villages in American Samoa have b.eeti wiped out by a hurricane, a tidal wave, and an earthquake. • Shipping was destroyed. The roofs; of houses were carried ten miles by the violence of the hurricane. Tlie soil was torn from the coral rocks, and buried coffins were left exposed. The loss of life was small. BURIED BY AN AVALANCHE. (Rec. February 14. 0.5 a.m.) Rome, Fobruary 18. An avalanche near Mesce, in the Col di Tenda (Maritime Alps), buried a hut full of workmen. Fifteen bodies were recovered. ■ •
