CIVIL SERVANT ARRESTED
ALLEGED DEFALCATIONS. It wias reported yesterday that the Wellington police had arrested a Civil Servant on charges of defalcation's. Last night the police stated that they had arrested Ernest Alfred Weldi, Registrar of the South Island Native Land Court District, on a charge of having on November 10, 1914, at Wei- ■ lington, received the sum of £17 4s. lOd. from C. H. Treadwell on terms requiring him to account for the same to the Receiver-General of New Zealand, and fraudulently omitted to do so. Welch had been a member of the permanent, staff since 1882. He will appear ..in .the Magistrate's Court this'morning.
