STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER. CBj TeletranhPress .Association.) Auckland, February 12. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, informed. Mr. A. M.; Myers, M.P., that the question-of the desirability of subsidising a new steam service between Auckland, Tonga, and Samoa had been fully inquired into, and it was considered on the information available that the Government • would not- be justified in subsidising an additional service. Further, during the war it would scarcely be opportune to incur additional expenditure on_ shipping subsidies. Mr. Massey promises that after the war tho question of steamer communication with the islands will be considered.
