Sydney) February 12. The Hon. W. A. Holman, Premier iof New South Wales, in introducing an Einorgency Bill to secure control ,of tho meat supplies in New, South Wales for tho purposes of-the Imperial Army should occasion arise, explained that the Governor, Sir Gerald Strickland, had received a cable message from the Imperial authorities stating that in view of tho largely increased demand for the Army and the'purchases by the l'rench Government, and also in order to prevent an excessive advance in prices of Australian meats in England, they desired to secure the whole of the Australian meat available for .export during the continuance of . the war, and asked New South Wales to co-operate by similar action to that already taken by Quensland. v The Bill now introduced was similar to the Queensland Bill, and provides for the seiauro of stock and compensation for the same by a Valuation Board having full powers. Where previous contracts are in existence, the price paid, though usually higher than that of the contracts, will be absolutely fixed by tho board, in order to avoid bogus contracts being made for the purpose of obtaining a higher price. Mr. Holman added: "We are invited to show our loyalty to the Imperial Government in an hour of crisis. I believe -the British Government is only protecting; itself against emergencies which might arise in the future. We' are prepared to stand behind the Empire m, 1 the last man and the last shilling, ilio Bill, which had previously been passed by tho Legislative Council, was passed through all its stages wiihout opposition.
