SWIMMING
, MISSEN CUP. ' The first distance (220 yds.) for tho Miesen Cup was decided last evening by the Wellington Amateur Swimming, Club, and. resulted in a win. for "W. Meyer with A. M. Farnall second and M'Oarlie third. A. Russell was close up fourth. Time, 3niin. .2 4-ssec., It is expected that at the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club's forthcoming carnival some 20 or 30 South Island swimmers, on their return from tho .championship meeting at Napier, will appear. It is stated that there is also a probability of a .contingent of swimmers from Napier and other centres putting in an appearance. Arrangements are being made for the appearance of Sinton, probably the fastest amateur over distances in New Zealand, and' who is. at present in camp at Trentham. Leading features of the programme are:—The Norden Cup, to he competed for by Wellington and Canterbury teams of seven men; squadron race, diving, water polo'. v-In the Duthie Cup, schools' championship, teams of four boys each swim 60 yards. To encourage lady swimmers the club is putting on a 50-yards handicap race, entrance freo.- v

Masterton, February 11. . The Masterton Ladies' Swimming Carnival was held to-day in ideal weather, and in the presence of a large gathering of the public. Mr. T. Shields, of Wellington, was present, and cave an, exhibition of fancy swimming, which was much appreciated. Miss Chris. Hofiking won the "Wairarapa championship, ana five other events, also' the Aitken-Cup for the most points. Mr. I, Jarrett won the'school championship.
