Dunedin, February 11. Recenlt rains, accentuated by a heavy, fall this morning, put the plough gallop out- of action at Wingatui, but the inside grass and the course proper derived considerable benefit from the downpour. The course proper, which is carrying a good sole of grass, can hardly fail to provide good going for the Cup meeting, unless the most unfavourable conditions crop up. So far nothing of an esciting nature has occurred in the way of gallops. To-day six ■ horses worked before breakfast, Steplock, Garettct, a filly by Charlemagne 11, Spqngold, and a couple of others not engaged did useful work. After breakfast Glenfem and Maryedite cantered. . Salzburg was going better than Helicon throughout sis furlongs in imin. 19 4-ssec. • Magdala, looking far bigger than, usual, did work. Yaranian was finishing better than Yolspie] at the end of six furlongs in lmin. 22 l-ssec., whilst Princess Ho alpo in the gallop, dropped out down the running. St. Brigid, bearing m improved appearance, oantered, . ] ' Chudic did easy pacing, and a similar task was allotted Jeannot, Lady Grafton, Optician, and Trilby. Golden Rupee and Redowa ran five furlongs, with the honours slightly in favour of the former. Quirinus cantered a oircuit, and then ran the last' live furlongs of another in Imin. 6 ItSsec. Gapon and John Barleycorn comfortably slipped over half a mile in 53 l-sseo., both looking and travelling well. United Service and Floraline worked over the same ground in 52 2-ssec. United Service has lightened up, anl looks bright and well. , Formnal, Mioky Free, . Kim, Sea Maid, Tviieme,'Thaddeus, and a couple of others, including Russo, did easy pacing. Outram, whilst working a mile and a quarter, ibroke his off hind cannon, and had to be sho.t. The going was a shade greasy as a resnlt of the heavy rain, and probably caused the' accident.
