The Right Hon. W. F. Massey left Auckland last night for Wellington. He will arrive her© this, afternoon.

The Hon. Vt. H. Herries. returns to Wellington from his trip to Rotorua and Tauranga on Sunday morning. Dr. Elizabeth Macdonald has been appointed a medical inspector of schools.

At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Equitable Building and Investment Co., of Wellington, Ltd. held on Wednesday last. Mr. Harold Beanchamp was elected chairman and managing director, in place of Mr. E. Balcombe Brown, who left for London per Remuera yesterday. Lieutenant-Colonel 6. Barclay, the Deputy Commissioner in Charge of St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, N.Z.,. has accepted a commission with the peditionary Forces and will go into oamp at Trentham shortly. At present he is in charge of. the Officers Instruction Camp, Railway Engineers, at lurabina.

On severing His connection with the Wellington Publishing Company, Mr. Wilfred Beech .was last evening -the recipient of a -silver teapot and a fountain pen from the staff. .The manager, in making the presentation, expressed appreciation., of Mr. Beech's many sterling qualities' and ability, . and. on behalf of his associates wished him every success in his future career.

I The death is announced of Mr. "James Leithead,' of Hastings. The late Mr. Leithead was born in Galashiels, Scotland. ' He farmed for some years at Stow, and subsequently came to New Zealand about 29 years ago. For fifteen years he managed Mr. Sydney Johnson's Mokoia' station near Woodville, going from there to take charge of Orua Wharo station at Takapau, where he has been for about: eleven years. -De- 1 ceased; had been ailing for some months, and recently visited Auckland in the" hope that tho change would be of benefit to him. This, however, did not have the desiried . effect,' and on, Wednesday last he had a severe attack, which culminated in his'death eaijly .on Sunday morning. The late Mr. Leithead took a keen interest in racing, and was vicepresident of the Woodville Jockey Club. He leaves a widow and throe daughters.
