FIGHTING IN THE CARPATHIANS
FIERCE AND CONTINUOUS RUSSIANS' BAYONET WORK SUPERIOR (Rec. February 10, 9 p ; m.) London, February 10. Mr. Martin Donohoe, war correspondent for the "Daily Chronicle," reporting from Bukovina, states that the Austro-German attack on the Dukla, Oskid, and Beskid Passes was fierce and continuous. Tie suffering on both sides was intensified by the extreme cold. The last day's battle raged in a blinding snoT/storm, and was of a hand-to-hand character, but the Russians' bayonet work was superior. The enemy was numerically superior, but failed to penetrate the Russian lines.
