POPE'S DELEGATE IN SYDNEY
OBJECT OF THE MISSION, f (Bee. February 9, 7.30 p.m.) Sydney, February 8. Tho Papal Delegates (Archbishop Cer« reti), who arrived yesterday, explains that the. object of his visit is.the' creation of a new Apostolic Delegation extending over Australia and New Zealand. It is not to set up a new ecclesiastical authority, but to bring the Australasian Roman Catholics into closer touch with tho Supreme Authority oi' tho Holy See. Ho. had come to work with the Bishop. Amongst the advantages of the Delegation, ho added, would be a Diocesan for parochial affairs, and controversies would be settled locallv instead of going to Rome. Archbishop Cerrctti will reside permanently in Sydney, paying periodical visits to other parts of Australasia, and will appoint the Rev. Dr. Ormond, of Auckland, as his private secretary.
