Professor Glaister, of Glasgow University, states that a number of records of Gretna Green marriages of several noble families have gone to America. He was negotiating with an old woman to whom they belonged to buy them for the State when her nephew in the United States hearing of his proposal stepped in and obtained them by offering a higher price than the State was prepared to pay.
