ATHLETIC SPORTS.
SWIMMING WELLINGTON CLUB. The final distance in the Wellington Swimming Club's president's handicap, of 150 yards, was decided at' Te Aro Baths last evening, with the following result:— A. M. Farrall (17 seconds), 1: H. Hall (31 seconds), 2, A. M'Carlie (2 seconds behind scratch), 3. Time, 2 minutes 12 seconds. THE THORNDON CLUB.
Last evening the Thorndon Club held the preliminary heats of a' 50 yards handicap. There were 18 starters, and tho finishes were clo6e and exciting. The final' will bo decided this evening. Details aro: —First heat: C. Neal, lOsec., 1; 15. Donovan, lOsec., 2. Also competed: S. Smith, lOsec.; N. Skinner, 7sec.; J. D. Brosnah, 7sec.; and J. Wickens, scr. ■ Won by a yard. Second heat: W. R. King, lOsec., 1; W. Lomas, ssec., 2. Also competed: J. Garratt, 3sec.; J. Burns, ssec.; V.' Tipene, 6sec, jC. Dealy, 7sec. Won easily. , Third heat: F. Desmond, lOsec., 1; O. Sheehy, 3sec., 2. Also competed: H. Desmond, 13sec.; J. Shearer, 4sec.; H. Harris, lOsec.; and C. Desmond. ssec. A very good finish.
PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATES. Mr. T.
