FATAL FALL FROM 'A SIGNAL POST. CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTEB. (By Telegraph.—Prose Association.) Auckland, Fobruary 3. The inquiry was rosumud to-day into tho death , of James Porlor, who was killed on January 2G wliilo ongaged in tho erection of n, signal post near Henderson railway station. Tho Coroner imuounced n verdict of "Donth duo to injurios recourod by falling from a signal post." Harry Johnston had, in .the opinion of Mr. CuUoii, given his ovidouco quite frankly and straightforwardly, and inado no attempt to evade his responsibility. The cause of tho accident wiis the omission of Johnston to coniply with the railway regulations. That omission was an. omission to dischargu a' legal duty, .amounting to culpablo ueglgence. ~ Later. As a sequel to the Coronor's finding, Harry Johnston, the man in charge of tho gang of signal erectors at tho time of tho accident, has been charged with manslaughter. A romand was granted for a week, bail being fixed at £40. FARM HAND DROWNED. Cambridge, February. 3. A farm hand named Thomas Giimore, employed on the Gordon Estate, near Cambridge, was drowned in the Waikato River, while bathing with two lads this afternoon, ' It is believed that Gilmore was carried into a whirlpool. The body of deceased has not yet Deen 'ecovered. Gilmore was about 30 years of age, and was to have been married shortly. . SUICIDE AT GISBORNE. Cisborne, February. 3. James Muir, aged forty-seven years, employed as a carter at the freezing works, committed suicide this morning. The body was found hanging in a cartshed. ■
