Traffic is as usual, subject to precautions for safety. Paris reports: The artillery struggle is more intense between the Lys and the Somme. A British post was driven back but tho ground was regained and the enemy's trenches ewre captured. 'An action reported at midnight was a particularly brilliant affair, and few Germans returned after it. . Petrograd reports: The German offensive on Sunday in tho region of Sochaczew and Bolimoff' was marked by great tenacity, and was conducted by a close formation, strongly supported behind. The German offensive compelled a retirement to the second line of trenches, but a counter-attack repulsed the enemy from all the trenches occupied. The German casualties were colossal. Simultaneously, German, attacks in front of the village of Govime and the liamlet of Moghelj were repulsed, partly by rifle fire and partly by the bayonet. Energetio artillery fire enabled them to occupy part of the trenches, but they were dislodged from nearly all later. The German success in the Borjiraow district is insignificant compared with losses sustained on Sunday by the'fire and bayonet attacks.' ..." -'■'..." In the fighting in the Carpathians, tho Russians successfully advanced. The German losses at Borjimow for the week were sis thousand killed and many wounded.. In the Carpathians, the Russians captured seventy-eight officers, four thousand men, four gnns, and ten ma-chine-guns. London, February 3, 4.45 a.m. Paris reports: The enemy's -batteries near Soissons were damaged. An infantry attack on Saint Paul was re- ' pulsed.
