KARORI FLOWER SHOW

SOME FINE EXHIBITS. Some excellent exhibits were to bo seen ab the annual Flower Show of the Kurori and Makara Horticultural Society which was held in tho Parochial Hall at Karori yesterday, the opening ceremony being performed by Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P. In the opinion of those who arc competent to judge, it was quite one of the best which have been held of late, and tho only drawback was the limited accommodation which the hall offered. The display of flowers was very,' representative, . but pride of place had to be given to the begonias and the gladioli, some beautiful specimens of the former being seen in the collection which was exhibited by Mr. \V. M. Jackson, and also among those shown by Mr Sidney Kirkcaldie, who, with the" Hon. C. J. Johnston, had sent in a very tine collection of pot plante for exhibition. In the opinion of the judges,- the roses and carnations, tho fprmer exhibited by Mr. H. E. Drydan and the latter by Mr. G. It. Boyes, were particularly good for the lime of the year, and while tho display of sweet peas was not large, some fine specimens were to be seen among them. The vegetables, particularly potatoes, shown by Mr. H. E. Dryden, received special mention. Mr. S. Kirkcaldie was placed first for the pot plants, and Mr. C. J. Johnston received second place, in the beautiful collections of cut flowers which were sent in by the same exhibitors, the judge, being unable to decide which was the better, adjudged them equal in merit. There was also a good display of home produce, of which Mrs. W. Hildreth was the judge. Miss Poole was tho judge of the cut flowers, and Mr. Kay of the vegetables A stall for home-made 6neete, in charge of Misses Newcombe, Burns, and Reid, did eatisfactory business, and in charge of the afternoon tea were Mrs. J.
