UNIVERSITY SENATE
MEDICAL AND OTHER DEGREES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, January 29. At the University Senate meeting to■day it was resolved that tho appointment of a medical travelling scholarship for this year should be left to the Chancellor after consultation with the medical faculty. - In special examinations held for students desirous- of going with the Expeditionary Force the following passed: L. H. Booth, R. L. Christie, D. E. Currie, T. H. Deniston, G. J. St. Clair Fisher, G. P. Fitzgerald, W. T. Glasgow, A. W. T. O'Sullivan, R. T. Parker, F. M. Spencer, J. L. Will, P. B. Benham, Wm. Aitken, J. Connor, S. L. Haslett, R. G. K. Hodgson, P. J. Jory, K MacCormick, G. N. MacDiimid, D. Mackay, D. S. Milne, T. R. Ritchie, W. G. Scannell, G. S. Sharp, A. V. Short, W. S. Wallis, E! J. H. Webb, and R. L. Withers. It was decided to confer the degrees of M.D. upon Wm. P. Johnston and the degrees of M.D. and.Bachelor of Surgery upon K. MacCormick, G.. N. MacDiarmid, and W.'S. Wallis, and on all other successful candidates when their fees had- been paid and other regulations complied with. D. B. Green and J. H. Don were qualified to receive the degree of Bachelor of Dental. Surgery. . The diploma of Public Health, was granted to John Tait Bowie. The Entrance Examinations Committee reported having examined and_ revised and made certain' minor alterations in the regulations governing University Junior Scholarships, University National Scholarships, and Taranaki Scholarships. The regulations as altered were adopted. Following - upon the Education Act, 1914, regulations governing the bestowal of bursaries for -universities were amended to bring them into -line. When the Examinations Committee reported upon the successful candidates for the year, Professor Hight asked that statistical particulars should be supplied showing l successes-and 'failures -inproportion 'to"candidates;' Dr. Fitchctt agreed that this woul dbe of value for public purposes, as sometimes allegations were made ■ that' the percentages of passes were ,as low a-s 10 per cent, in, say, law, where the usual percentage was about 33 1-3. It- was decided that the. Registrar should make a note of the matter and bring it before the committee. _____
