TRADES COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of the Trades and Labour Council was held in the Trades Hall last night, Mr. F. Cornwell presiding over a large attendance of delegates. The secretary, Mr. L. M. A. Hearden, presented various reports, which were received and adopted. The organising committee reported that since last meeting two unions had affiliated, considerably strengthening the council. The matter of the . non-ic-ceptance of tramway concession tickets on Anniversary Day was considered, and it was decided to approach the City Council in connection with the matter. It was aiso decided actively to support the movement for the Saturday half-holiday. In connection with the increased cost of living, a committee has been set up to investigate wholesale and retail prices with a view to taking action and to invite the public to contribute facts and figures bearing on the matter. ' The Workers' Education Commission was heartily endorsed, and the council decided to affiliate, and recommend all bodies affiliated with it to do likewise.
