GERMAN TRENCH GUN
Writing in the Paria "Journal," M. Servin brings forward another example of the thoroughness with which the present war was prepared by the Germans. Special weapons nave been prepared for every type of warfare. For trench fighting peculiar light guns, known as mine-throwers (Minenwerfer have been designed. These throw explosive projectiles short distances into the enemy's trenches, and their lightness makes the 1 question of their transport an easy matter. There are several models, the largest throwing a projectile with a hundred-pound charge, and the smallest being about a three-inch gun, with a six-pound projectile capable of carrying two pounds of explosives. The medium size is a five and a half-inch gun with a projectile carrying a thirtypound charge. M. Servin states that though the weapons are apparently very formidable, considerably less dam- [ ago has been done by them than might have been anticipated.
