The Prime Minister received the following message from the High Commissioner:— : London, January 26, 7 p.m. Pari6 reports:. "At , Givenchy and Guinchy, near La Bajsee, the enemy, fivo times attacksd tfie British lines, but tvere repulsed, leaving numerous dead behind. ■ West of Craonne, tlie Germans attacked twice in succession, with extreme violence. Tho first attack was repulsed, but'the second penetrated the trenches; but by an energetic counter-attack, tho Allies regained almost the whole of the ground lost. "Tho fighting continues." London, January 27, 5 a.m.; Paris reports that tho British repulsed a fresh attack near La Ba-S6ee and reoccupied their former positions. Three hundred Germans were Killed on the place, where the fighting was very,,._ warm. ••■■■ • • "♦ Tho Germans, who penetrated theAllies' trenches west of Craonno, wero thrown into confusion by aerial bombs, and were driven out. In the Argonne the Allies attackei.l..~ in the direction of Saint Hubert and Fontaine Madame and regained the trenches previously lost.
