MAGISTRATE'S COURT
o Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.. presided over a sitting of the Magistrate s Court jesterday. Julia Sommeans was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on a charge of stealing £3 19s. in money and a lady's hand-hag and purse of a total value of £5 from Nellie Sullivan. She was ordered to pay 4s. witnesses' expenses. Margaret Wehb was sent to gaol for a month on a charge of importuning,, and remanded to January 23 on a charge of being a roguo and a vagabond, in that she had insufficient means of support. Annie Peet, a prohibited person, was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined £1, or three day 6' imprisonment, for committing a breach of the order against her. For drunkenness, Peter Muloahy and James M'Michael (who waß rescued from the harbour the previous evening) wore each fined £2, in default 14 dayß' imprisonment, while Edward Bloomfield was fined 10s., default being fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment. A number of by-law cases wore set down for hearing, but were adjourned to January .29.
