CLOSING HOURS FOR SHOPS
THE POSITION OF CHEMISTS. (By Megronh.—Press Aesoolatton.) Christchurch, January 22. The Magistrate, Mr. Bailey, gave judgment to-day in the case of Baraett and Co., chemists, charged with failing to close their premises according to the Shops and Offices Act. Ho held that there was no provision for the sale of medicine or surgical appliances, even when urgently required, outside the gazetted hour, and said the position seemed to be terious for chemists. Either a fresh requisition should he made or the Aot amended. He would inflict a nominal fiim of ss. withoutcosts,
