FRENCH CHASSEUR BEARS 139. (Rec. January 22, '6.40 p.m.) London, January 21. Rene Vidal, a chasseur, holds the record for wounds. He bears 139 distinct wounds, caused by shrapnel, principally in his legs and the lower part of his body. He is recovering uncrippled.—"Times" and Sydney "Sun" services. THE TROOPS AT CAIRO DENIAL OF GERMAN STORIES. (Rec. January 23, 1.25 a.m.) Sydney, January 22. Senator Pearce (Minister of Defence) gave an emphatic denial to the Germanmade stories regarding the alleged doings of Australian officers and their wives at .Cairo, and the sinking of the warship Australia. He points out that no wives went with the Expeditionary Force, and the authorities were very recently in communication with tho warship, which reported "All well."
