FLOODS IN SOUTHLAND

Inveroarglll, January 22. Lumsden .reports that at Mossbuttt it ib' stated that the River ii higher than it was at the big flood two years ago. It is raining at the Key. There was a slight washout at Eyre Creek this morning, and the train was delayed lor half an hour. At Maniapouri tho boat was alongside and tho timbor on wharf had to be shifted north _of Lumsden in the Kingston direction.
Rain only commenced a rouple of hours ego, bo that there are hopes the Mataura River- will not be flooding, at present owing to the recent very warm weather, the quantity of snow on the mountains is not abnormal.
Considerable damage was -done at the Bluff to J. G. Ward's store, and'the contents were damaged to the extent of £3000 or £4000. There'were; several narrow escapes, out no loss of! life. There are no further details at; present.
