ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
HOSPITAL REPORTS. ' The railway fireman, F. C. Hyde, win Was injured in a railway accident at Plimmerton on Monday, was reported from the Hospital last night to be in about the same condition bb he was in tho previous night. Mr. Harding, chief officer of tho.Minoric,. who,is at present an irunate of the Hospital, suffering from an injury to his knee, was reported from that institution last night to be doing very well. FATAL COLLISION. (Br Teleuretih—Pr«o« Aiaoo!s.tl6X>) Dunodln, January 19. A young man named Charles Lane, 28 years of age, was motoring homeward to Milton late last night with a young man named Hugh Tweedie, riding on the carrier behind. When near the ' bridge at the north end of Milton the cycle crashed into a. trap driven by Jas. Grey, farmer, of Milburn, in which' were also his wife and daughter. Lane was thrown on his head and sustained such injuries that he died early this morn- • ing. Tweedie is only semiconscious and unable to answer any. questions regarding the accident; The occilpant-s of the buggy were thrown out, and Mrs. Grey , sustained a fractured arm., Mr. Grey was bruised, and Miss Grey escaped without any injury. Lane was a member of the Toko Football Club, and had represented the' South Otago Union in inter-provincial' matches. EXPLOSION OF GTJN-COTTON. Dunedln, January 19 ; This evening thero was an explosioii' of gun-cotton at Morton, which was' being loaded by Andrew Walkfr, of Musselburgh. His son Btanley, 1| years of age, had a leg badly shattered below theTcnea. The second south express was stopped at Merton and the boy brought to Dunedin, where his foot was amputated at the hospital. ' FATAL COLLISION. ■ Dunedln, January 19. Charles Lane, a sisgle man, aged . 2?. years, while riding a motor-oycle at Milton last night, collided with a trap, and -his skull was fractured. He' died , this morning. . ' DROWNING ACCIDENT. ' . Blenheim, January 19 Particulars of the drowning cocidentf in the Wakamarina River, on Friday last show .that Mrs. Keszler iuid three children went' to the river in the evening to fish, that Lawrence, aged- 2} years, fell, into the water, and in trying to res- , cue. him the mother .was also drowned... Henry Keszler, the deceased woman's husband, is a reservist, and left the Dominion shortly after the declaration of war. \ Tm.T/Kn by A FALLING TREE. Hamilton, January 19. A young married man named Hugh Smith, aged 22 years, was killed by a falling tree, at Karamu yesterday. Ho loaves a wife and one child. , BURNED TO DEATH. Auckland, January 19. A gumdigger named Alexander Bea- , ton was found burned to death in a hut' at Gumtown. • RAILWAY GUARD. MISSING. ' ■ : Clsborne, January 19. J. Bryson, a railway guard at Matawai, has been missing since Sunday last. Search parties are out.
