» TRAIN ACCIDENT AT PLIMMEETON A fireman named F. C. Hyde met with a rather serious accident at Plimmorton yesterday afternoon. Hyde is a fireman on tlio ballast engine at Pareniata, and stepped off his own engine in the way of tho express from Auckland, which was passing through the station. Taken by surprise he was knocked down beforo he could got out ■ of tho way. He was found to be rather ' severely knocked about the head, and was brought with all dispatch on to Wellington and conveyed to the Hospital. There, he was found to be suffering from rather sevoro scalp wounds. Last night he was reported from the Hospital to bo a little easier than when he was admitted to the institution. Hyde is a single man, is 22 years of age, and lives at Paekakariki. THE ACCIDENT ON THE MINERIC. Mr. Harding, the chief officer of the cargo steamer Mineric,-'Who was removed to the Hospital on Sunday on the arrival of his vessel, suffering from acute septicaemia caused • through an injury to his knee while his vessel was at Newcastle, was Teported- from the Hospital last evening to be a little easier in condition. He had undergone i& slight operation yesterday. Fanny Sinclair, a hotel servant, who was injured through a dinner lift unexpectedly' descending on her head on Sunday last, and who was removed to the Hospital, was reported from that institution last evening to be getting on very well. ■ SHOT IN THE ABDOMEN (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dunedin, January 18. Mr. C C. Graham, Coroner, held an, inquest to-day touching the death of Geo. Williams, a youth, who died asthe result of a. gunshot wound sustained, whilst shooting rabbits at Waitati'on Sunday. The deceased, who was seventeen years of age, was with a younger brother and a young mart when in some unexplained way—neither of his companions was looking at the time—his gun exploded, and the charge entered his sto,mach, causing instantaneous death. The Coroner recorded a formal verdict. SUICIDE OF A STATION HAND. Taihape, January 18. Thomas Johnson, an Englishman, thirty-nine years of age, employed at Ngatatea Station, had'been missing for a fortnight. -A search party found the body in tho vicinity of the Erewhon Station yesterday, with the throat cut, and a razor in tho man's hand. '• YOUNG MAN'S SUICIDE., • . .. Blenheim, January 18. A young man named Cogle was found at Jackson's Head yesterday with the top of his head blown off, and a shotgun beside the body. It is thought to be a case of suicide. . > LITTLE BOY KILLED. Stratford, January 18. Francis Seddon M'Cullough, aged six years, a son of Mr. W. F. M'Cullough, was killed yesterday by a milk cart, driven by .hie brother, overturning on top of him. DOUBLE TRAGEDY. Felldlng, January 18. A sad double tragedy is reported from Eongotea. / Two old men, mates and rabbiters, had oeen drinking heavily at their camp. Robert Paterson died practically in delirium tremens, and his 'mate, named Emanuel White, went to Rongotea to report the affair to the police. He, too, dropped dead. The doctor said both were cases of heart failure. . ■•'
