SWIMMING
. Last evening tlio Thorndon Swimming Club decided the final of the 100 yards handicap, preliminary heats of which had been decided oil Thursday night. The result was:—F. Roberts (scr.), I; W. J. O'Meara (7scc.), 2; Desmond (7sec.), and J. Shearer (lsec.), dead heat, 3. The other starters were: A. W. Smith (155e0.) and —. Wlieelor (scr.). O'Meara held a slight lead from a bunched field when three-quarters of the distance had been traversed. Roberts, however, had'- the race in hand, and, swimming strongly, gradually wore O'Meara down, eventually vanning by a couple of feet. The third men. were close up. Time, 72 l-ssec. This afternoon the club is giving an "at home," when a '50 yards ladies' handicap will be the chief feature on the'programme..'
