INVERCARGILL WOOL SALES.

EXCELLENT. PRICES ■ (By Telegtapb.—Press Association.) Invercargill, January 15. .. The wool sales to-day were the,most successful ever held in Invercargill.: It was anticipated that there would ■be more than ordinary fair prices, but the most optimistic were scarcely prepared for the prices realised, and most wore entirely but in their calculations. The demand ioi strong crossbred was very keen, and in the production of this class of wool'' .Southland is renowned. Competition was limited to Homo and New Zealand buyers, Bradford mainly operating. In all 10,600 bales were catalogued and were disposed' of. Growers were prepared to accept the rates .ruling, at the last Dunedin sales, but these prices wore topped all round ,by. a penny to. twopence at to-day's sales. The top price was fourteen pence for a choice line of hogget wool. , The prices realised. to-day compare as follow with tho prices at the corresponding sale of last year (the figures for this year being given ill parentheses) : — • Merino, super to good, none offering; good to medium, lOd. to 9sd. (IOJd. to 10Jd.); medium to inferior, Bjjd. ito Bd. (9Jd. to BJd.). Halfbreds, super to good, Hid. to 10id. (none on offer); good to medium, 10jd._ to lOd. (13d. to 12d.); medium to inferior, 9sd. to SJd- (HJd•to 10Jd.). Fair crossbred, super to .good, Hid. to IOJd. (14d. to 13d.); good to medium, IOJd. to 9Jd. (123 d. to ,12d.); medium to inferior, Did.to BJd. (113 d. to 10id.); strong crossbred, super to good, lOd. to 9}d. (13d. to 12d.); .good to jnedium, 9}d- to 84c], (Hid. to 10Jd.); medium to inferior, Bid. to Bd. (10Jd. to 10d.).
