TRAMWAY ACCIDENT
ON THE KELBUEN-KARORI LINE; A rather - eerious accident occurred at the head of the Kelburn and Karori Tramway Company's line at 9.50 a.m. yesterday; As the upward-bound car was nearing the hill-top termnius an old gentleman, Mr. Chas. Sharpe Iggleston, 82 years of nge, who had come up the pathway just below the Kelburn Kiosk, stopped on to the track, apparently to cross to the. other side, evidently oblivious to the near approach of the other car, and .before he could take advantage of the warning shout given by a spectator, or before the car could be pulled up, tho old man was'knocked over, fortunately sideways, off the centre of the track, and was dragged along by the side step for three or four yards before the car came to rest. By the time this happened the unfortunate man was jamed in under the side step of the car and the sidewalk, and the step had to be removed' slid the car jack.ed lip before he could he released. Strangely enough, Mr. Iggleston did not lose consciousness, aud held up bravely whilst he was half led and half carried into, the kiosk. There his injuries were temporarily attended to. Later he was removed to the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Cecil V. Goulter, of 16 Rawhiti Terrace, Kelburn. where his injuries were attended to by Dr. Pattie. . .
On examination it was found that Mr. Iggleston's -right knee was rather badly crushed, a bone in one, of his hands was broken, he was bruised and slightly cut ahout the face, and suffered considerably from shock. During yesterday afternoon he could remember nothing about tho unfortunate accident.
