WAR-STRICKEN BELGIUM AND POLAND
, A CRY FROM WARSAW (Reo. January 13, 5.15 p.m.) London, January 12. The Chahman of the Belgian Relief Fund says that the generosity of the Australians and New Zealanders is magnificent. "We only wish that the peoplo in these far-off lands could see how their self-facriflce alleviates the misery and allays the disease apd suffering in Belgium, a proud, thrifty nation, now at ths njercy of the world. If that mercy is strained she will no longer exist'."—("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Peryices.) MISERY 'AND WANT IN POLAND. (Rec. January 13, 5.15 p.m.) London, January 12. The ''Times" correspondent at Warsaw states that the devastation of Poland has resulted in deplorable conditions. Thousands are poverty-stricken, haying lost everything. leading Poles are constantly inquiring why, when kindness is lavished on Belgium, there js relatively small interest in the pathetic and increasingly tragic condition of the Polish peasants,—("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
