UNITED INTERCESSION
The Rev. W. Shirer, preaching at St. James's Church, Wellington South, on "Invocation," called special attention to "midday halt for prayer" observed in Queensland. He said: "The present crisis called for calmness and energy, for a full recognition of the place of intercession in the religious life of the Empire. The report received from the Commonwealth showed that the community generally had taken a deep interest in the midday season of intercession; the notice had been placed'in one thousand shops and offices in Brisbane.' The notice read: • 'You are invited at the call of the church bells each day at two minutes to twelve to make silent appeal to God for tie Empire, our soldiers, and sailors.' "Could the churchbells ring," said the speaker, "for a nobler purpose?"
