a MAN STRANGLES HIMSELF. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Thames, January 11. 'A man named Charles Brown, aged 50, who came from Hamilton and had been working at Thames, committed suicide in the hospital last night by strangling himself. He was admitted a week ago, suffering from delirium tremens, and was progressing well, when he strangled himsolf with his bedolothes. When discovered he was practically dead, and medical assistance was unavailing. GIRL DROWNED. Levin, January 11. 'A sad drowning accident occurred on the Hokio beach yesterday at 10.30 a.m. Mr. T. Broome, Mrs. Broome, and daughter, aged eleven, of Levin, with Mr. Carey ajid Mrs. Carey, of Birkenhead, Auckland, and Phyllis Chapman, aged twelve, of Levin, while bathing got into a hole. All got ashore except the girl Chapman. Mrs. Broome went to the rescue and got hold of the girl, but was forced to let go. Mr. Broome then attempted a rescue, but was soon in difficulties and was rescued by R. Smith. It took about an hour to bring Broomei round. Meanwhile the girl Chapman disappeared. The body has not been recovered, and tho police are searching tho beach. OLD MAN'S BODY FOUND. Inveroarglll, January 11. The body of an old man was found in the scrub at Spring Hills. The remains are supposed to be those of William Ackers, who had been .missing for some time DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Auckland, January 11. Albert Bozar, aged 17, was drowned while bathing in tho Puhoi River. A BICYCLE ACCIDENT. An employee in the mail room at the General Post Office, a lad named Esmond BLime, met with an accident while riding a bicycle round the corner of Hobson and Davis Streets yesterday afternoon, which resulted in his being rendered unconscious. Ho lost control of his machine as he rounded the oorner, and dashing into the lcerbing was 'thrown hoavily on. to the footpath. He was picked up unconscious, having received a. bad cut under one of Ins eyes, and was carried into the Thorndon Private Hospital. There lie received attention from Dr. Webster and the hospital staff. He regained consciousness later, and is at present suffering from shock.
