A BURNHAM ESCAPEE
BEFORE THE COURT FOR FORGERY

Tlmaru, January 11. ■ A youth named Birch, a Burnham escapee already committed for trial for assault on his employer, Mr. O'Connell, of Clandeboye, was charged boforo tho Magistrate's Court to-day with five cases of forgery of O'Connell's name to cheques, and uttering the same to a Temuka shopkeeper, tho total amount being £15 10s., also with theft of various articles and money, to the value of £5 10s., the property of O ConnelL Birch was also charged with the theft of a bicycle valued at £8, at Mitcham, on August 12, and with breaking and entering a dwelling at Mitcham on the same date, and stealing a watch and chain and £5 15s. cash. Accused had admitted the offences to tho Police, and was committed for trial. Some stolen articles and £7 2s. 6d. in money were fcnmd in accussed's -possession. The articles were ordered to be returned to their owners and the money to be I divided among the losers.
