WHEAT FROM CANADA
FIRST SHIPMENT REACHES AUCK- , LAND. (By M«BM.pli— Press .Association.) Auckland, January 11. The first shipment of 511,000 bushels of wheat ordered from abroad by the Government arrived this, morning by the Niagara. ■ '- Mr. C. A. Mathieson, an officer of the Agricultural Department, is in Auckkind to arrange for the distribution of the grain. The Auckland Harbour Board was prepared, if necessary, to store the wheat for the Government free of cost, but this is not necessary as applications have been received which will enable the grain to be delivered from the ship's side. The arrangements are in the hands of a wheat distribution committee, on behalf of which Mr. Mathieson is acting. The wheat costs the Government 6s. 3d., but is to be sold at ss. 9d. per bushel. The application forms '.issued by the committee state that the grain is prime Canadian, milling wheat, and that it has been imported for the purpose of bread-mak-ing. Tho wheat will only be supplied to applicants who can show that the stocks held are insufficient to meet requirements. In the event of larger shipments coming later on, that may require to bo stored, the Harbour Board is prepared to aid'the Government by providing shed accommodation gratis.
