AT THE "ZOO"
» FEDERAL PRIME MINISTER A VISITOR. The Federal Prime Minister (the Right Hon. Andrew Fisher), accompanied by Mr. James. Boyd, M.P., oi Melbourne, paid' a visit to the Municipal Zoo at Newtown Park on Saturday morning as the guest of the City Council. The council was represented bj the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), 1 Councillors George" Frost (chairman of the Reserves Committee), A. H. Hindmarsh, and L. M'Kenzie, and with them the Hou. H. D. Bell, Minister, of Internal Affairs. The Zoo was. inspected pretty thoroughly, the Australian visitors commenting favourably oil the picturesqueness of the site, and the maimer in which the animals, were kept. They were especially pleased at the aquarium, anc paid proper homage to King Dick, hii consort, the Princess Malta, and th( young lion recently brought from' One liunga. Mr. Fisher, who thought th< Zoo was a fine educative adjunct to th( City, said he would be quite willinj to assist in its development in any waj that laid in his power by inducing th< authorities to allow specimens of tlu more strictly prohibited Australiai birds to come to New Zealand, birds such as the cassowary, brush turkey and the beautiful lyre-bird of Northerr Queensland. He was quite satisfied that they would he well looked aftei in the Wellington Zoo. On the way back to town the part; was hospitably entertained by Councillo: L. M'Kenzio at his residence in Duf ferin Street.
