Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a.sitting of-the Magistrate s Court on Saturday. . Mary-Johnson-was fined £2, in default 14 days! gaol, for drunkenness, and on a charge of being a .rogue and a vagabond in that, she liad insufficient means of' support, was sent to gaol for six months;.,; ' ... , ~ Kathleen Stanley, was charged with drunkenness and with having used obBoene language. She/was fined 10a.. or 48 hours' imprisonment on the nrst charge, and on the latter £3 or one month's ; gaol. ■V ' . ' , Henry Oallaghan appeared on . remand charged with helpless drunkenness. He was convicted and ordered to pay the cost of, curative treatment, 7S James M'Sweeney, who had been convicted and discharged the previous day for drunkenness,, again appeared similarly charged.' The Magistrate commented on thei-advantage accused had taken of th>, Court's previous leniency and fined him 10s. or 48 hours' gaol. Other offenders for drunkenness were dealt with as follow:—William Thompson, fined 10s. ; or 48 hours' imprisonment;. Peter Hiighes, fined £1 or three days' imprisonment.
