to the proclamation to bo issued, it is not clear whether this price will also apply to locally-grown wheat. It is suggested by the Premier that the restrictions a* to the price of wheat will be removed when the new crop is available. Even if tho new crop turns out nearly as good as last year's, it will not produce sufficient for a year's requirements, and further import* tions boforc the next harvest will undoubtedly have to bo made. If, however, supplies last until about the end of the year, there should be no difficulty in obtaining shipments from Australia, as a much larger area is proposed to bo sown this year, and there are now signs that the.drought is breaking up. TheTc was recently a decided rise in the prices of bran and pollard, owing to the demand from Australia, the former being raised to «./ and the latter to £7 10s. for shipping, bran being 6s. per ton more for local consumption. The eiport of both bran and pollard has now, however, been prohibited, but no change in the prices has yet been made. Oats aro firmer, as a good inquiry has 6et in, presumably from Australia, and stocks are now very bare. It ie reported that several samples of New Algerians nave been seen, but no business is yet said to have taken place. Old A Grade oats are now worth 35.. and B Grade 2s. 10a. to 2s. lid. at country stations. • Oatsheof chaff is very firm, but supplies are difficult to obtain, the price offered being £4 10s. at country stations.
