PROHIBITION OF RUBBER EXPORT
- 0 ' The prohibition of the export of raw rubber from Great Britain came none too soon.. The enemy was being helped from England herself, according to the London correspondent of "Capital." In October a. small cargo of rubber left an East Ooaßt port, after eluding the Customs authorities, to oross the North Sea. But a British man-o'-war overhauled the ship, and at once ordered it back to discharge the cargo. This helping of the enemy in England is in striking oontrasfc to Belgian patriotism. Eveii Ahtwep—next to London one of the largest rubber markets for selling and warehousing rubber—took good care that the predatory Prussian should find no rubber there. It was all successfully removed to London before the'forts were captured by the enemy. Germany will be terribly hard hit if her rubber supplies are. stopped. It is said that the Kaiser has implored the famous chemists to get to work at- once on a synthetic substitute but we may with a quiet conscience make the Germans welcome to all the rubber "Made in Germany" that they can get.
