PHYSICAL CULTURE CAMP
■ : —. ». —. WOMEN TEACHERS ON PLIHMER- • TON BEACH. A unique and interesting camp is at ? 'resent pitched on Plimmerton teach, ti is the first women- teachers' camp held in the Dominion, and it consists / of about thirty school mistresses, who are undergoing a. refresher, course in physical training. The object of the > teachers ia_ to increase their proficiency in the subject of physical culture) with a view to passing the knowledge on / to the school ohildren who come under t their charge. '. The camp was organised.by Miss D. Stuckey, of Kaiparoro, Miss D. K. Heritage, of tlio staff of the Physical Culture branch of the Education Department, is instructing the campers. Messrs. F. R. Just and A. P. Roydhouse, members of the samo branch, are looking after the equipment', etc. The camp was commenced oh Monday last, and will be continued for a fortnight. The teachers rise at 6.30 a.m., and have hot coffee and biscuits. At 7 o'clock they begin work, and (with a few spoils) it- is continued till 4.10 p.m. Stvimming has a prominent place in the time-table. The evening is given up to amusei ments,. which take various forms, f Last Tuesday evening a conceit wari r held. ' The Education Department is providing _ the; instructors and the camping; H equipment, and the campers find everything else., They propose to pool the expensos, and share them equally.
