THE MEN AT SAMOA STATEMENT BY HON. JAS. ALLEN. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) v Dunedln, January 5. ' "In all probability," said tie Hon. J. Allen in the course of an interview, ''we shall soon be bringing back 500 of the men now in Samoa. They will be' allowed some leave in New Zealand and then into camp at Trentham in preparation for going to the -front if tney wish. After that we hope to send to Samoa to relieve the bulk of the rest of the garrison men now being enlisted in New Zealand between 40 and 47 years of age, after they have ■ received a certain amount of training here./ When the remainder of tho garrison in Samoa return to New Zealand, if they wish to go to the front, they will have the opportunity of going with future reinforcements. The first 500 who return will probably go with the fourth reinforcement and the second lot will probably go with the fifth reinforcement, "Respecting the offer of nurses I oabled to the Army Council-saying that New Zealand trained nurses were anxious for service in Egypt or elsewhere, and stating that tho Government was prepared to send "50 for service with the British troops or :, with the Fronch Red Cross if the latter desired. So far I have not had an answer. I also telegraphed to Mr. A. Fisher to this effect; 'If reinforcements of nurses for the Australian hospitals in France are required, would you accept tho Borvicos of New Zealand trained nurses?" "Mr. Fisher informs me that he has cabled to Senator Pearce on the matter and will advise me as soon as possible." '
