INTERCESSORY PRAYERS
THROUGHOUT BRITAIN i London, January, 3. Orowded intercession services .were held in tlie Protestant, Catholicj and Russian churches and chapels throughout Britain. THE OVERSEA RALLY. (Red. January 5, 0.16 a.m.) ■ London, January 4. The Primate, preaching in St. Paul's on Sunday, said in this centenary of Waterloo, with the graves of Nelson, Wellington, and Roberts beneath us, ! with world-wido intercessory prayers offered on the Canadian rivers, Australian pastures, <ind Indian plains, with men and women tho loyal men Who answered the Empiro's call, we should he graceless if we failed, to give thanks for the great rallying of our overseas brethren. WE MUST AVENGE THE OUTRAGE. Canon Wilberforooi preaching in the Abbey, said wo must do olir utmost to avenge the outrageous and premeditated crime against humanity by one man— ! England's aroh-enemy. The collections in all the churches were devoted to the Red Cross Fund. PRAYERS IN ROME. (R-ec. January 5, 1.5 a.m.) Roma, January 4. Speoial prayers were offered in all the English churches here for the Allies' success. Archbishop Redwood of New Zealand attended the intercessory service at the chapel in the English College. STRONG APPEAL FOR RECRUITS. ■ Sydney, January 4. Sunday's intercessory prayers were backed by strong appeals to the young men of the Commonwealth to respond to the call of Empire duty. The response to the call for troops continues excellent. Although there has been no recruiting during the holidays, many presented themselves at tho barracks.
