AMERICAN EFFORTS London) January B._ The American Ambassador in Berlin has promised to do everything possible to secure Lonsdale a reprieve. [Lonsdale, a prisoner ot war at the Doeberitz camp, recently sentenced _to ten years for assuming a threatening attitude and .refusing to obey the guard, •was re-tried by the Supreme Courtmartial for an aggravated assault, and was-scntcueed to death.' Ho intends appealing to the Imperial Court-mar-tial. The sentence has been very 'severely commented upon in many quarters and described as an act of ferociousvengeance.
