Auckland, January 4. Two German prisoners from Samoa in addition to F-. E., N. Gaudin Were brought to Auckland by tlie Navua. today. The Auckland military authorities stated on inquiry that #hey were cot aware of the names of the prisoners iior of the nature of the offences for ;wiich they were undergoing imprisonment.. After the arrival of. the prisoners they were taken to Mount ; Eden Gaol. On being approached the prison officials informed, a "Herald" representative that although,"they -knew.- the names of the prisoners and the charges against them these could not be divulged without the permission;of the "Un-der-Secretary of the Department, striot instructions to this effect/having/been issued. It is understood the prisoners were sentenced"for' breaches'of .regiila-' tions governing the conditions undei" ■ which. Germans may change their, places of residence at Samoa/ .' Four- officers and; twenty-three eol'diers also returned on the Navua. In the majority" of oases they have been invalided home.
