DECEASED IDENTIFIED. (Rec. January 3, 3130 pin.)' Melbourno, January 2. George Ray, a labourer, identified the body of the woman known as Lucy Gorman. Her correct namo was Lucy Carlson, living apart from-her husband for fourteen years, during which time she lived with Roy until a fortnight ago, when the deceased left with her mother-in-law in a taxi.
The body of Lucy Gorman or Carlson was found in a houso in Johnson Street, Richmond. She had apparently been battered to death,' the result of a drunken-orgy.- Empty beer bottles littered the rooms, indicating that a crime had teen committed several days ago, No- weapon,was found. Jt is believed the victim was battered with a beer bottle, and after the attack wandered about the rooms, and finally collapsing over a chair, where she was found.
< STATE STATISTICS . VICTORIAN INSOLVENCIES. Melbourne, January 2. There were 164 insolvencies in Viotoria in 1914, representing liabilities, £111,289; assets, £63,147; deficiencies, £54,285; surpluses, £61,436. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REVENUE. . Adelaide, January 2. 'The half-yearly revenue of South Australia totalled £1,769,839, a decrease of £394,148 compared with last year. Tho expenditure was £2,715.190, an increase of £357,274. The deficit is £451,963. DOUBLE TRAGEDY MURDER AND SUICIDE. ■ Melbourne, January 2. 'A' double tragedy occurred at Toolera, where Miss Wynne,, aged seventeen years, was shot by an Italian who had been camping near the girl's borne. Two sisters were standing outside the house when the Italian approached, seized a gun, and pointed it at tho younger sister, who fled and-escaped unhurt. The man then turned the gun en the elder girl and blew off the top of her head. He then committed suicide. IMMIGRANTS TEST FOR UNDESIRABLES. Washington, January l.r Congress is dicussing an Immigration Bill with a literary test dosignod largely to exclude undesirable immigrants. Senator Reed proposed the exclusion of aE immigrante except Caucasians. Great opposition immediately developed, and the amendment was finally overwhelmingly defeated. Proposals for the exclusion of Turks and East Indians were also defeated, but a proposal to exclude Africans was corned by a email majority. '

A number of carriages -were smashed. Seven persons were killed and many injured. Later news states that"ten persona were'killed and twenty seriously injured at Ilford. . UNEMPLOYED PARADE DEVELOPS 'INTO* A RIOT, . (Rec. January 3, 3 p.m.) New York, January 2. An unemployed ' demanding Work resulted in a riot. The police clubbed scores of men, and made many arrests. The unemployed attempted rescues, when the' police ' reserves charged the crowd and beat off the monstrators.The banners were inscribed: "All homeless men revolt; to hell with charity!"DRY ARIZONA FUNERAL LEVEES HELD. New York, January 1. Arizona officially became "dry" on New Year's Eve. Funeral levees were held in six hundred saloons iii Phoenix! Coffins were placed in the middle of the roomand toasts drunk thereto. Arizona is the first State wherein' Prohibition is in force under the recent vote.
